How The Academy of Art University Helps Students Achieve Big Things In The Fashion Industry

New York Fashion Week is a big event in the fashion industry. New people gain attention with their talented designs all the time at this event. The Academy of Art University has been a big part of this event for 21 years, holding a fashion runway showcase of the clothing their students have created. This year their runway event was held on September 9th and was located at Skylight Clarkson Center which is at the center of New York Fashion Week.
The fashion that was showcased at the Academy of Art University’s event was very diverse. This is because their students come from all over the world including mainland China. Shown on the runway were two menswear collections and five for women. Among the people attending this event was Ms. J Alexander who is well known as a judge on America’s Next Top Model.
The Academy of Art University was established in 1929. It is a privately owned university which is run on a for-profit basis. It is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco, California. It has almost 300 full-time teachers as well as close to 1200 part-time teachers. Each year it has about 12,600 students in attendance.
It was Richard S. Stephens who had founded the Academy of Art University. In 1951 his son, Richard A. Stephens, became the top executive of the university. He, in turn, was replaced by his daughter Elisa Stephens in 1992. During her time as president of the university it has greatly increased its student body. When she took over there were about 2000 students in attendance, or 1/6th of what it is today.
The Academy of Art University also fields a number of sports teams. They are known as the Urban Knights and are part of the NCAA Division II Pacific West Conference. They compete in nine sports, including cross country and track and field. Their men’s cross country team did very well during the 2014-2015 season, earning second-place for the season. Meanwhile that same season the women’s team achieved a fourth-place finish which was a record for them.
